Halloween Fun or Fear - Which Would You Choose?

 Fright Fest at Six Flags

That may sound like a silly question, but the annual Fright Fest during October at Six Flags in nearby Mitchellville is all about fear - fear of diabolical roller coasters, haunted mazes, costumed ghouls, live cockroaches, the Coffin of Fear and more.

It's fun, too - the ecstasy of "surviving" all of the above, the energy of the season, and amazement at the fabulous sights, sounds and costumes.

I'm betting that most kids (of the PG-13 variety) would choose the Fun and Fear of Six Flags from now through October 28 over trick-or-treating with the little kids in their local neighborhoods.

Six Flags suggests that you enjoy Fright Fest five different ways:

Fright Fest Ride

1.  Thrills by Day- Your kids can go trick-or-treating in a safe and exciting environment in the Looney Tunes Spooky Town, or enjoy a not-too-spooky Hay Ride.  Looney Tune characters will be in the Pumpkin Patch for photos and dancing along to the Monster Mash Bash.

2.  Chills by Night- As the sun goes down, ghouls, ghosts, spirits, monsters and phantoms come out all over the park.  Experience the fun and fear of the Firghttorium Haunted House and the Haunted Wild West Stunt Show.

3.  Haunted Rides - The rides at Six Flags are transformed into haunted motion machines in the spooky shadows of the night during Fright Fest.

4.  Wheel of Fright -Last year, kids "enjoyed" the opportunity to eat a live Madagascar hissing cockroach and get front-of-the-line access.  This year's guests can spin the Wheel of Fright for a chance to win front-of-line access when the wheel lands on cockroaches, wax worms, crickets, night-crawlers, Rocky Mountain oysters and hot Habenero peppers.

5.  Coffin of Fear - Each "guest" will lie in a coffin filled with meal worms, and must remain in the coffin for at least one minute to receive a prize.  Oh my!

Six Flags ticketIf you're reading this, you are probably an adult... and you may share my feelings that this fear doesn't sound much like fun.  But I'm betting your adolescent and teenage kids will!

Six Flags is located in Mitchellville, Maryland, about 10 miles south and 15 minutes from Crofton.  During Fright Fest, you will get a fourth ticket free, when you buy three tickets online.

Fun...for kids!  I heard on the news the other night that the MGM in Las Vegas has the 4th scariest haunted house in the U.S....I don't know who picks these...anyway I'm going to be doing some research and will blog about it later.  Good blog!

I love Halloween - my sister shared a little tradition from Co Springs that I am trying this year - we have no kids for trick or treating - so we are going to boo the neighbors - I will blog about it later

Thesa - 'Looking forward to reading it!

Paula - I'm with you on that.

Mary - Count me out! (for visiting the haunted house, that is)

Bridget - I don't remember ever being young enough to appreciate something like this.

Sally - You're right.  Don't you wonder what their parents are thinking, letting them dress like that?

Margaret- Those teens in the photo look like some teen in their usual dress!  I had one daughter who went through the 'Gothic' stage. The first day she came out of her room I told her to change her clothes. She just brought her clothes with her and changed somewhere else. This was her the one time she wanted to try public school. I decided that if I just ignored her style of dress it would go away, if I would choose to keep making a big deal of it, she would use it as a form of control and rebellion. Well, after two weeks of my not saying anything to her face about it, she stopped! I was so happy! Katerina

Katerina, that's the best way to get kids to stop something - ignore them.  When my son came home with an earring, we all just ignored it.  and it took about two week s for him to stop.  No one in the family ever discussed it with him.
